Along the fold line that divides the document into top and bottom halves, the document has split apart into two pieces.

In the Supreme Court of the state of Ohio, for the County of Muskingum, October Term A.D. 1828. Be it remembered that on this 21st day of October A.D. 1828, in the Supreme Court here personally came James McCann, and makes application to become a citizen of the United States. And it being proven to the satisfaction of the court that the said James McCann was residing within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States, before the 18th day of June 1812 and has continued to reside within the same. And it being further proved to the court here, by the oaths of Samuel McCann and James Hampson, citizens of the United States, that the said James McCann has resided for five years immediately preceeding this time, in the state of Ohio, and within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States, and is a person of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same – Do order, that the said James McCann, be admitted to all the privileges of a citizen of the United States. Whereupon the said James McCann was sworn in open court, to support the constitution of the United States, and that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State, or Sovereignty whatsoever, and particularly all allegiance and fidelity to George the fourth, King of the United Kingdoms of Great Britain and Ireland of whom he was before this time a subject. And it is ordered that a certificate here of issue to the said James McCann under the seal of this court.

The document certifies Samuel McCann’s oath of office to the office of Justice of the Peace for Jackson Township, Muskingum County, Ohio. The certificate is dated May 7, 1869 in Zanesville, is signed by Wm Arthur, Depty Clerk, C.C.P., and is recorded May 7 1869

Resolution from the Ladies Missionary Society of Frazeysburg Church on the death of Mrs. Jane McCann. Text states that McCann was the group’s eldest member and that McCann was a “conscientious, faithful and earnest member” of the Missionary Society, the Church, and the Sabbath School.

Committee members of the Missionary Society include Maude S. Nesbitt, Rosa W. Frazier, and Beth W. McCann
