Rev. George Bartlett Wood, 1988
Rev. George Bartlett Wood (1910-1999). Wood was Trinity's fourteenth rector, serving from 1947 to 1971. During his tenure he oversaw the construction of a new parish house in 1956 and the establishment of two mission churches, St. Alban's and St. Philip and St. James. Wood had served as a chaplain in the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II and was the only chaplain to make four parachute jumps, including one on D-Day, when he landed into Ste. Mare Eglise. Considered a brash personality and a hard taskmaster, Wood offers a revealing interview about his view of the church, the problems he faced when he arrived, the difficulties he had with several curates, and his opinion that World War II veterans were tougher than those from Vietnam. The interview was conducted in 1988 by Matthew Vosmeier and wife Sarah McNair Vosmeier prior to their becoming professors at Hanover College.
